Home for the Holidays

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

College aged kids around the world play host to a longstanding tradition that revolves around the school calendar. Throughout the school year there are well-positioned breaks in the curriculum that provide students with an opportunity to return home for a spell. The school calendar is divided into semesters that correspond with the seasons. School usually begins in the early fall for most kids. Breaks are usually first experienced around thanksgiving. Kids are usually eager to take school holidays and catch up on some of the things that mom and dad’s house has to offer. Doing laundry is prime break activity since most kids have inadequate access to laundry facilities at school. Kids are often able to reconnect with their hometown friends to hear stories about what has been going on at everyone’s respective colleges. The interaction with old friends sometimes lead to drunken reminiscing and pledges of better friendship.

The next holiday that is anticipated by students usually coincides with the Christmas holiday. The break marks the end of the school semester so there is often lots of work to do before heading home for the season. Exams and term papers tax the ability of students before being released back into the nest of a comfortable return home.
